Summer Serenade Set to Start Season

Summer is fast approaching, the itch to get out and moving is real, and there’s no better way to move than to dance your ass off to some of the most fun acts that the midwest has to offer. On June 7th and 8th, The Outpost Concert Club in Kent will be host to Summer Serenade – an eclectic mix of funk, jam, fusion, electronica, and more! Also featuring several live painters and flow artists, as well as vendors for all your favorite wares.
Headlining the event are After Funk, Exmag, The Magic Beans, and Mungion, supported by several amazing local artists ready to caress your eardrums with searing jams. In case you aren’t familiar with these bands, let me break them down for you.
After Funk are the Canadian masters of the dance party. Fresh off the release of their first full-length album, Santa Barbara, these fellas are unstoppable. Weaving elements of funk, jazz, soul, blues and more, they’ll take you on a funky journey about the musical cosmos until your legs turn to jelly.

Exmag turns up the heat in any room by at least ten degrees as soon as the first beat hits, transforming any venue into a sonic sauna. A mix of hip-hop and R&B beats with keys and a smooth guitar round out their sound. Taking influence from artists like J Dilla, their simplistic, yet magically emotional grooves will keep you sweating to the end.

The Magic Beans, hailing from Denver, CO, are here to funk up the jam. Their mountain vibe coupled with a little bit of “you might need a space suit for this” intensity makes for an unforgettable experience show after show. Soaring guitar solos and ethereal keys will have you jamming until long after the show ends.

 
Mungion are like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re gonna get. Their genre-bending style is full of surprises; one moment might be a dark heavy jam, and the next is twangy bluegrass. These guys never fail to bring the party, and are not a band to be missed.
